Rules & Regulations

01. The 12×12 Vancouver Photo Marathon (”the marathon”) will be held on Saturday August 6th, 2011 at Urban Rush Cafe & Catering: 1040 Denman St, Vancouver (”the venue”) from 9:00am to 10:00pm.

02. To qualify as a participant, a non-refundable ticket for the marathon must be purchased at www.VancouverPhotoMarathon.com/tickets in advance of the event. Tickets will not be sold at the event. Each participant can only purchase one ticket.

03. Participants must report at 9:00am for registration at the venue and must present a valid photo ID.

04. Participants must fill out and sign a provided copy of the marathon Rules & Regulations + Terms & Conditions Form during registration.

05. Participants under the age of 18 must provide during registration: a filled out and signed copy of the marathon Parental/Legal Guardian Consent Form, as well as a filled out and signed copy of the marathon Rules & Regulations + Terms & Conditions Form from a parent or legal guardian.

06. Participants who do not register by 10:30am on August 6th, 2011 will forfeit their ticket to those on the waiting list unless advance notice is given to and acknowledged by the organizer. Before releasing the ticket, the organizer will attempt to contact the participant using the number provided during ticket purchase.

07. The marathon is open to amateur and professional photographers of any age.

08. Participants must bring and use their own 35mm camera.

09. The organizer is not responsible for providing photographic equipment including cameras, spare batteries, lenses, other photographic accessories etc. All participants are expected to come prepared with all their photographic equipment.

10. Participants must only use the provided 12 exposure 35mm film which is handed out during registration.

11. The organizer will announce 1 theme each hour on the hour for 12 hours beginning at 10am. The themes will be announced verbally and posted at the venue. Themes will not be published on the website, through Twitter or any other social media platform, and will not be provided by phone.

12. Participants must return to the venue or have someone return on their behalf to acquire the themes.

13. Participants must take 1 photo interpreting each theme in the sequence that they are announced for a total of 12 photos. Film rolls that do not contain 12 exposures or that do not have all 12 themes photographed in the correct sequence will be disqualified.

14. Participants must abide by the laws of Canada and British Columbia.

15. Photos of explicit nudity and criminal behaviour of any kind will not be developed and are grounds for immediate disqualification.

16. Participants must respect personality rights. Do not make persons on the street the focus of a photo without their explicit permission. Permission is not required from persons in the background, in a crowd, or standing inconspicuously in front of a building or other structure.

17. Participants must respect artists’ rights. Do not make artworks of any kind the focus of a photo without the explicit permission of the artist. Most artwork, including public art, installations and sculptures, is covered by copyright by the artist and/or owner and should only be photographed as a background element.

18. Participants must respect the rights of property owners. Property owners have the right to restrict you from taking photos while standing on their property (including outside spaces and inside buildings). You are allowed to take any photo while standing on public property.

19. Participants must return to the venue at or before 10pm on Saturday August 6th, 2011 to return the film. Film returned after this time will be disqualified.

20. All qualified photos will be exhibited in the same layout regardless of special participant requests.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

01. Participation in the competition signifies the agreement and acceptance of the Rules & Regulations, as well as the Terms & Conditions as listed.

02. Participants retain full ownership of their own photos taken during the marathon.

03. The organizer retains the right to publish all marathon photos on Flickr.com for an unlimited period of time, publish all photos on the official websites (www.VancouverPhotoMarathon.com and www.12x12yvr.com) for an unlimited period of time, reproduce printed versions of the photos for an unlimited period of time, and use the photos for promotional purposes for future marathons and marathon related events without consent and compensation to the photographers

04. The organizer reserves the right to disqualify any participant who has infringed any of the marathon Rules & Regulations

05. The organizer is not responsible for any loss or damage due to improper film loading or unloading.

06. Decisions by the organizers and judges are final. No queries will be entertained.

07. All photos will be published on Flickr.com under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported licence.

08. The organizer is not responsible for entries not received due to lost or over/under-exposed film, broken cameras, obstructions or miscommunications, or other technical or electronic malfunctions.

09. Sponsors are not responsible for incorrect or inaccurate participant information, and are indemnified against any loss or damage caused by any of the equipment used to process any marathon photos or by any human error.

10. By entering, participants release and hold harmless the marathon organizers, sponsors, affiliates and any directors, officers, volunteers, judges or employees of those organizations from any and all liability for any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with the marathon.

11. If, for any reason, the contest cannot be conducted as planned, including any causes beyond the control of the organizers, the organizers reserve the right, at their sole discretion, to cancel, modify, suspend or terminate the contest without notice.

12. Entry into the marathon does not create any vested right or interest for its participants in the prizes offered for the marathon.

13. All monies, prizes and other objects of value collected in connection with the marathon will be held in trust by Pink & Yellow Media and its officers. Pink & Yellow Media and its owners, officers and employees are held harmless from any and all liability in relation to the marathon.

14. The organizer reserves the right to alter or amend the Rules & Regulations, as well as the Terms & Conditions at any time without notice.
