A callout to all photo labs!

As you can imagine, putting on an event like the 12×12 Vancouver Photo Marathon isn’t exactly a walk in the park. One of the challenges that’s causing a bit of a snag in our planning efforts is: Film development.

Film to digital ain’t cheap!

Surprisingly, we’re still working on nailing down a deal to get all the film developed, scanned and printed at a reasonable cost. We deliberately set the participation fee for the event as low as possible ($12 for early-bird tickets and $15 for last-week tickets) and that, we thought, would cover film, development, digital transfer and prints. Based on past experience as a lab technician myself, this seemed like a realistic estimate but to our surprise, most development labs charge and arm and a leg (and sometimes your firstborn) to transfer your film to digital media. So now we’re hoping that a local development lab will step up and support this grassroots effort.

You can save the day!

Here’s where we stand today: The best offer we’ve gotten for development, digital scans and print is manageable, but leaves us with little room for re-prints, enlargements and all the other cool stuff we had planned. Even so, we’ll make it happen. But I am certain there is a photo lab in Vancouver willing to help us out with this in return for some serious advertising, plugs and other promotional considerations. It’s just a matter of finding the right fit. I can assure you, if you come on board and help us out with our development and printing needs, we’ll make sure the world knows about you and think of you the next time they have photos that need to be printed. The 12×12 Vancouver Photo Marathon is a not-for-profit local event that aims to bring communities together for a great day of artistic fun. I just know there are local businesses who can help make it all that it can be.
